This course provides an introduction to working with geospatial data in QGIS for data scientists and those new to GIS and geography.

QGIS is a geographic information system (GIS) software that is free and open-source. QGIS was previously also known as Quantum GIS.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will know how to:

  • Navigate QGIS User Interface
  • Create, save, and customise a QGIS project
  • Import and export tables and spatial data to and from QGIS
  • Use basic GIS tools to process geospatial data
  • Edit geospatial data and perform a basic analysis
  • Style layers to visualise the underlying data
  • Create a basic geospatial data visualisation
