Research Integrity annual statements

Government departments and bodies need to publish annual statements showing how they met the requirements of the ‘Guidance to Implement the Concordat to Support Research Integrity within Government’.

Meeting the requirements of the guidance ensures that research produced by government is of a high quality and meets legal, ethical and professional standards.

The annual statements set out systems and processes that departments have put in place to bring integrity and openness to their research including arrangements for:

  • Governance
  • Internal guidance, training and awareness raising
  • Publication of research protocols and analysis plans in advance of research studies
  • Publication of research
  • Handling of research misconduct

Analysis Function Heads of Profession signed up to applying the principles of the Concordat to research which falls in scope, in the summer of 2021. Departmental Chief Scientific Advisers had previously signed up to the principles in 2018.

Everyone involved with research in government should continue to work together to apply the principles of integrity to all government research which falls within scope of the guidance.

You can find links to the 2022 to 2023 statements as they are published on this collection page. The page also includes contact details of research integrity leads within departments.
