GSG mandatory training
Everyone who works with official statistics is in the Government Statistical Service (GSS). If you have also passed a badging exercise you will automatically join the Government Statistician Group (GSG).
If you are unsure whether or not you are in the GSG please email GSS.Careers@ons.gov.uk and we can check for you.
When you join the GSG your name gets passed to the Analysis Function Capability Team who will invite you to three mandatory courses as you settle into your new career:
- Government Statistician Group – Induction course – you should be invited to attend this course at some point during your first six months in your first GSG post (this course is under review, more detail to follow)
- Government Statistician Group – Foundation course – you should be invited to attend this course 6 to 18 months after you join the GSG (this course is currently paused, but you can find resources and guidance on the course page)
- Career checkpoint course – you should be invited to this 18 months after you join the GSG
Fast Streamers
If you have joined the GSG as a fast streamer, the mandatory introductory courses you attend may differ from the rest of the GSG.
