About the Analysis Function
Who we are
The Government Analysis Function is one of the Civil Service Functions.
We are a cross-government network made up of around 17,000 people involved in the generation and dissemination of analysis.
Aim and mission
We aim to improve the analytical capability of the Civil Service and act as the go-to-community for research and analysis services within government.
Our mission is to support the government to make better decisions by helping everyone easily access the advice, analysis, research and evidence they need, using consistent, professional standards.
We do this by:
- facilitating cross-profession lateral moves
- holding an Analysis Function conference (the first of which took place in 2018)
- setting best practice and professional standards for analysts
Strategy
The Government Analysis Strategy explains our vision and the supporting objectives for analysis in government.
The Government Analysis Functional Standard
The purpose of the Government Analysis Functional Standard is to set expectations for the planning and undertaking of analysis across government. It aims to build trust and enable better informed decision making.
It is part of a set of operational standards which set the expectations regarding how government is managed.
Other operational standards:
- Aqua Book
- Code of Practice for Statistics
- Green Book
- Magenta Book
- Better Use of Data
- Actuarial Professional and Technical Standards
