The three levels of Respondent Centred Design (RCD) guidance can be used to help make decisions about the amount of research and design needed for survey questions and materials.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) Survey Strategy Research and Development Principles (SSRDP) sets out the 11 design principles the ONS has established to help understand what it takes to make a survey respondent centred whist reducing respondent burden and improving data quality.
