About this event

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) Economic Forum explores the latest economic and social developments including a wide range of analytic topics.

Presentations this month include:

  • State of the UK Economy – Providing a stocktake of the latest trends and developments in the economy
  • An update on the transformation of consumer price inflation statistics – We are currently undertaking an ambitious transformation of our consumer price statistics, including new data sources, and improved methods, processes and systems. We will provide an update on our plans to introduce groceries “scanner data” (data collected by retailers at the point of sale, whether in-store or online) into our consumer price inflation statistics in March 2026.
  • Trends in UK business dynamism and productivity: 2025 – We will cover statistics on firm-level productivity, business dynamism and business markup estimates, calculated using business survey and administrative microdata and showing how the economy has changed from 1997 to 2024
  • UK Natural Capital Accounts 2025 – This session will cover key statistics from the UK natural capital accounts, showing that total asset value of ecosystem services in the UK in 2023 was an estimated £1.6 trillion. There will be a particular focus on statistics on urban heat regulating services from the environment, as we have developed our methodology to cover all Local Authority areas in Great Britain, and other ecosystem services including greenhouse gas regulating, renewable electricity provisioning and health benefits from visiting nature.
