GSS Conference 2026 Information
The Government Statistical Service (GSS) Conference – ‘Data Storytelling: what statistics can tell us’ will take place:
- in Bristol on Tuesday 20 October
- Online on Wednesday 4 November
Information about how to register to attend will be shared in the coming weeks.
The committee is currently planning the event, and further information will be added to the conference pages regularly.
Speaking at the conference
We’re inviting abstract submissions for parallel sessions at the GSS Conference 2026.
We welcome a range of formats, including presentations with question-and-answer sessions, teach-in demonstrations and workshops sessions. Submit your abstract through our Microsoft Form by 5pm on Thursday 16 July.
Parallel sessions last for 35 minutes, and take place at the same time as four others.
The conference will take place:
- in Bristol, on 20 October 2026
- Online, on 4 November
All applicants should be available to attend the in-person event, and to repeat their session (or nominate a colleague to repeat it) online.
There is one in-person ticket available per session. Further speakers would need to be allocated from your departmental allowance.
Submitting your application
Submit your application through the Microsoft Form by 5pm on Thursday 16 July.
Abstracts should be a maximum of 250 words and include:
- the aim of your session (for example, lessons you’d like attendees to take away, or questions you’ll answer)
- how you will engage the audience (for example, interactive elements)
- how your session is applicable across government (e.g. wider relevance)
To help your application to stand out, we encourage you to consider how you will engage attendees both in-person and online.
On the form, you will also be asked how your session relates to the theme.
This is a great opportunity to showcase your work to a likeminded community and develop your skills. Presenters consistently share that they valued the chance to:
- showcase their work to statisticians across government, raising its profile
- receive feedback and discuss arising issues with an engaged audience
- build professional connections and strengthen collaboration opportunities
- gain valuable experience in presenting, supporting professional development
Successful speakers will receive support to prepare for their session, including advice on shaping your content for audience engagement and accessibility.
