UK equalities data

Making government statistics accessible to everyone

Statistics database

Version:
1.2.0
Updated:
Wed 02 October 2024

The Equality Act 2010 applies in England, Wales and Scotland. Although there is some overlap with the protected characteristics in the Equality Act, separate legislation applies in Northern Ireland.

This database covers data on the protected characteristics as codified under the Equality Act. These are age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. While race is the protected characteristic defined in the Act, ethnicity is the primary source of data collection in the UK and is used in monitoring equality. Data sources have only been included where they cover from 1 August 2013.

For a definition of 'Other communal establishments', please see the glossary.

Users should note that work is still ongoing to populate the audit and any blank fields. As a result, missing fields reflect our current knowledge of the data rather than an absence of that data. If there are sources of data that are not currently captured, or any amendments needed to the existing information then please contact us at equalities@ons.gov.uk.

Access the Equalities Data Audit spreadsheet, the basis of this tool, at the below link:

Equalities Data Audit, Office for National Statistics.

You can search this database using the available filters or, if you want more flexibility, the search field.

You can deselect filters through:

  • the drop-down menus
  • by clicking buttons in the "Active Filters" section
  • by clicking the "Clear all filters" button, though doing so will also clear any fields you have filled in

To see or hide all search results secondary information, click on the "Show all" or "Hide all" buttons.
